Forma Moderna, a ceramic sculpture duo, founded by Sheldon and Kamil is the brilliant collaboration of two outsider artists. Both have always been interested in art and design and chose sculpture because they feel it is the best way to express their collaborative vision. Their work explores the relationship between art, design and urban life. Their principles are working side by side, celebrating unique design and fine craftsmanship.
“Making the decision to leave our lives in the UK and moving to Palma de Mallorca was an invigorating choice,” says the duo. They describe this as the most metamorphic moment in both their personal lives as well as their professional careers...the transition to the unknown, the excitement of building a new life. “We chose Palma for it’s eclectic mix of interesting, beautiful and colorful people, dreamers just like ourselves. We did not run away to a deserted island because we like people. The visitors to the island are great! They come with positive energy to enjoy and the sun and the fun Mallorca has to offer”. After transitional six months in Palma they opened an atelier, fully committing their lives to sculpture. They do all the work on their sculptures with their own hands, from the first idea, through shaping and sculpting clay, adding metal elements and embellishments, to finishing details and textures. This collaborative process grants high authenticity to their work.
Sheldon is a multidisciplinary art facilitator and expert antique dealer. After teaching art as an art facilitator for individuals with learning disabilities he transitioned to interior design and antique commerce.
Kamil has masters in psychology, but followed his passion and for 15 years had an established career as an antique dealer.
They met while working with individuals with learning disabilities during one of Sheldon’s outside art enabling classes. They quickly established a strong friendship and became a couple. During their careers in antique trade they learned about the various art movements, design and art history which gave them a strong base to become artists, something they always intended to do.
